Despite the cheery website, the shelter is struggling. Dogs and cats are being dropped off almost daily. Donations are sparse and inconsistent. The local authorities are antagonistic towards Evangelia. And the saddest part of all - animals are not adopted often enough. They get their basic needs met at the shelter, but they lack the love of human families that they crave so much and deserve fully.

We welcome animal lovers to come and give us help tending to the animals, cleaning the enclosures, feeding, walking and petting the many dogs and cats at the shelter.

Adopt
All the dogs and cats at the shelter are vaccinated and ready to travel anywhere within the EU. They’re sweet and loving — most ended up here after being found injured or severely malnourished.
Many came as puppies and stayed for many years. This is sad and wrong. They all deserve love and families of their own. Adopting is easier than you think - drop us a message if there is a dog you'd like to learn more about.

Have an animal in need?
It's very hard for us to say no to an animal in need. At the same time, we are at capacity and have extremely limited resources to care for the existing animals.
Before you consider contacting us, please do your best to address the medical needs - take them to the vet, buy necessary medications, and feed the animal in need. If there is no way for you to continue caring for the animal, please contact us at vagelio.help@gmail.com. Put "I need help" in the subject line.
